COACHING STAFF
JOE DELLA VECCHIA - HEAD COACH
Joe Della Vecchia is entering his 36th year coaching at St. Joe’s, serving as head coach since 1998. A 1981 graduate of the school, he played both football (all-league 1979, 1980) and baseball (all-league 1981) while at St. Joe’s, and has been directly involved in eleven of St. Joe’s 15 state football championships; first as a player, he was captain of the 1980 team – the first football state championship in school history; as an assistant coach (1988, 1989, and 1990), and as head coach (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 19).
He has also won numerous coaching awards over the years; CHSCA Assistant Coach of the Year (1997), FCIAC Coach of the Year (2016), CT Post Coach of the Year (2009), New Haven Register Coach of the Year (2010), National Football Foundation Coach of the Year (2009, 2010, 2014, 2020), CHSCA Coach of the Year (2017), NY Giants Coach of the Week (Week #1- 2017)
Coach Dell has the unique distinction of winning a state football championship at the same school as a player, an assistant coach, a head coach, and while coaching his son, Joseph, who was an all-state quarterback on the 2009 and 2010 state championship teams.
In addition to coaching football at St. Joes, Coach Dell was an assistant coach for the school's 2006, 2007 and 2010 girl's state championship softball teams, he was the head coach for the Boys Golf Team from 2016 through 2021, winning the State Championship in 2021and was a member of the 1980 State Championship Baseball Team.
A teacher in the Stratford school system, he is married to the former Kathleen Morrissey (SJ 1981), and they have four children; Christine (SJ 2009), Joseph (SJ 2011), Lauren (SJ 2013), Kara (SJ 2015).
GARY CLARK - ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Clark, a graduate of Notre Dame High School (West Haven) holds a degree in Human Performance from Southern Connecticut State University. He has coached at the high school, post graduate and collegiately for over twenty years. The Fairfield resident helps coordinate the defense for the Hogs.
BRENNAN FRACZEK - ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Fraczek, a seventh year member of the St. Joe’s football staff, serves as the teams offensive line coach. Coach Frazcek played at Newtown High School, where he was a member of the 1990 and 1992 class MM state championship teams. He lives in Trumbull with Johanna and their three sons Gavin, Keenan, and Beckett, and is a history teacher at Stratford High School.
